9/11 Memorial

The 9/11 monument is located at the intersection of Sherman Drive and the Memorial Parkway.

This monument is dedicated to the memory of the 2,998 people who died during the terrorist attacks on New York City, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Ann Coupe, local author of Twelve Valiant Men – a story about the 12 Utica Firefighters who responded to the 9/11 attack was the impetus behind the monument, its design, its commission, and its benefactor. The monument's site plan was developed by Dave Short, Utica's Commissioner of the Department of Public Works, The Central New York Conservancy is responsible for the plantings and their upkeep.
